I have a font which has specialy designed superscript numbers. THat i want to use in the text.

When I import the word file into indesign the footnotes use the generated superscript from the normal numbers. It looks bad!

My question:Can I force indesign to use the special characters from the typography for superscript numbers? Or must I do it by hand? I dont even know how to do that becouse when I erase the number in the text the footnote changes.

I know this is probably a total amateur problem but please help.

If you're using an opentype font (often a “pro” font), then InDesign should use those automatically, though perhaps you'll have to set them by choosing Superscript/Superior from the OpenType flyout menu, inside the Character panel menu. (This also appears in the Control panel menu.)

Yes i have a pro typogrpahy. And yes it works…THanks alot.

But now when i apply this to the whole style, allmost all the letters also go in superscript…and if i want to edit the style. I dont find this superscript options…So do I have to go true all the footnotes numbers by hand?

THanks for the great help. Still I know this are amateur questions…

Well, most people use the footnote feature in InDesign, which should apply the footnotes automatically. Word's footnotes usually convert into InDesign's footnotes (unless you're using a really old version of InDesign that doesn't do footnotes, I guess… or the footnotes are in a table… InDesign can't do footnotes inside tables).

Also: You could make a footnote (superscript) character style, and then apply it using grep styles.

If i select the number it does the correct thing, but then when i redefine the style many of letters also go superscript…it looks funny bit it is not…
I am on indesign cs5…but still not all the numbers change…actualy nothing happens if i dont select the number…

I am also new in GREP styles? any direction how i could do it with grep?
