Font format import problem

I’m experiencing a problem with importing (Place command) some text from Word documents (.docx). In a somewhat erratic fashion, InDesign drops local bold formatting from some words or from some glyphs within words. I think that all the glyphs from which the bold format is dropped have had accent marks applied to them; and it is often, perhaps always, the case that whole words from which the bold formatting is dropped start with an accented letter. (These are non-English names.)
All the fonts involved are available to InDesign, in both Regular and Bold. The application of bold in Word is done locally and not through applying a defined style. Most instances of glyphs and words made bold in Word come into InDesign as bold, but some do not: sometimes whole words and sometimes individual glyphs in the middle of words come in as Regular rather than Bold.
Any suggestions, for either InDesign or the preparation of the Word documents?
      Thank you!

Do the fonts you want to use in fact contain those accented characters in their repertoire?

      Chris.
