    Hi everyone,
    Font troubles! Here’s the situation:
    When I paste from one file to another (created from a template), my body copy comes in as a different font (it switches from Galliard to Times). I have paragraph styles set up in both files and they are identical, both specifying Galliard. In the new document, the style has an override when pasted in. If I clear the override the copy does go back to Galliard.

    If I paste into a new document without any defined styles, it comes in correctly as Galliard.

    If I redefine the style in the file created from template to be a different font instead of Galliard, the text from the old doc pastes in correctly to that new font and doesn’t switch to Times.

    This is only affecting this one style. Everything else transfers correctly.

    For reference I’m in InDesign CS6 8.1.1.421 and I’m in OS X 10.10.5.

    I hope all of this makes sense! Any help is appreciated.

    Taylor, this happens normally, because something is based on [Basic Paragraph Style] and your defintions are different in your document. So check your settings …

    Thanks for your quick reply. I thought that might be a factor as well, but those styles are based on No Paragraph Style. And Basic Paragraph style is the same in both documents. Or is there another factor I’m not considering?

    I’m pretty sure, it’s a problem with the styles, cause it is always ever the same problem since years ;-) Another thing that ‘can’ cause problems: They changed the font in No Paragraph style and Basic Paragraph style from Times / Times New Roman to Minion Pro.

    You could provide 2 testfiles where there problems happen during copy/paste, but I have only time for a short investigation later in the evening or tomorrow.

    It seems, that someone plays with the font in No para Style and read Davids article weeks ago: https://creativepro.com/changing-default-font-indesign-document-advanced.php

    When I read Davids article, I thought that I never want to use this method, till today. So thanks David.

    However: I cannot say, if this can happen in the UI or someone plays with the idml, but while one doc is set to Times, the other is set to Galliard (and not Minion Pro!). If you set both to the same font (probably Times) and apply the correct settings in the style, your copy/paste thing will work right.

    Thanks for looking into this, Kai. I just read David’s article. That’s a totally crazy thing. It’s odd to think someone would’ve done that to our files!

    Taylor, I’m pretty sure, that no one crack up your files and want to annoy someone ;-) Maybe it’s a k4 problem or whatever, BUT: Davids way shows how to solve your problem.

    Well, it’s 2023 now, and this just happened to me. Style sheets in both documents were based on No Paragraph Style, but when pasting from one file to another the font changed from Franklin Gothic to Minion Pro. I went into the original file and made the change from David’s article and it fixed it.

    Thanks to the group for this solution. Major time saver.

    But if this isn’t normally a user-accessible setting, and I can guarantee you I’ve never dug into the code to change this, why would one doc be set to Minion Pro and the other be set to Franklin? Why bother carefully basing style sheets on No Paragraph Style if that can be overridden by something buried in the code? It’s infuriating.
