      Hello,
I have been tasked with making folder inserts; each one steps down 1/2 inch so that you can see the title at the top of each page.

I am sure everyone has seen this sort of thing.

What would be the best practice of setting this up in indesign. I am not an advanced user, and I would really like some advice.

The printer provided me with psd templates but obviously that would not be the program to use.

We discussed doing layers in indesign but I fear that leaves me guessing a bleed?

So I was going to set up individual documents:

      EX:
      8.5 x 11
      8.5 x 10.5
      8.5 x 10
      8.5 x 9.5
      8.5 x 9
      etc

I created the header in the first document and I am placing it in each document align the top of the shape with the bleed.

It seems as if that is the way to go?

Thank you very much for your help!

You can do this all in one document. Create an 8.5×11 document with bleed, then as many pages as you need. Put the logo masthead on the master page and apply the master page to all your pages.

Page 1 will be 8.5 x 11. On page 2, click on the Page Tool, then the control bar will change and allow you to type in different page sizes. Set the proxy point to the top, then change the height to 10.5.

Then go to page 3 and change the page height to 10. GO to page 4 and change the page height to 9.5. Continue like this for all your pages.

This will make it much easier down the road if you need to change out the header. You’ll only have to do it in one place. This will also make managing styles much easier.
