Finding paragraph styles based on one you’re editing

      Hi,
I’m trying to clean up an Indesign file that was originally created by an agency. They have loads of paragraph styles, and I’m trying to weed out the unused ones. Is there a way to find which paragraph styles are based on a specific Style? For example, I have one called “New Design – Color” and it’s not used in the document, but when I try to delete it it asks for a replacement. So I think there are other paragraph styles based on it…is there an easy way to find out which ones?

      Hey Meghan,
That’s always tough to sift through someone elses styles. One thing that might help is the StyLighter script from Indescripts. It allows you to highlight text based on the styles so you can scroll through and see if anything is being affected by that style.

Note: the colors you select might not be the one you see, I think its a bug or InDesign versions do play nicely with it, so play around with it if you end up trying it. I find it a very handy script to have in my scripts folder for times like this.

There was a discussion about a script on this here:

The PowerStyles feature in DTP Cloud (was “Blatner Tools”) may also be able to help:

@Aaron and @David, thank you so much! I’ll definitely give these a try!
