How can I find and highlight every instance of an italicized word in my InDesign document so I can copy and paste it into my copyright page?

      Using Find/change window
      Button GREP
Find: .* ( dot follow by asterix )
      Find format: italic

Thank you but there are hundreds of italicized words and I want to highlight and copy all of the them at once and paste all of them into a new document for copyright purposes.

All that happens with Grep using a dot followed by an asterix is that InDesign just goes to each italicized word.

Any help would save me going through each word and copying and pasting.

      Is it possible to:
      – make a copy of the document (as this destroys the text),
      – then find the non-italic stuff and replace with nothing,
      – then use something to extract the remaining text?

      Chris.

      By find/change window..GREP
      1.1- Found italic
1.2- Replace by Found+special char in italic ( something is not in your text ) ( XOX )
      2.1- Found all reg
      2.2- Replace by nothing
3.1- Found all End of paragraph
      3.2- Replace by nothing
4.1- Find special char in italic( XOX )
4.2- Replace by End of paragraph
At the end you have all italic text… line by line
Check indesign Sample Script ( Find&ChangeByList ) you can automate all these step in once

After testing i dont think that you can find format (italic) by GREP script (Find&ChangeByList)
But if you save every step in the find/change window… It can be faster
Or maybe call Grep window by applescript

I believe that you actually can save a Find Format and Change Format in the FindChangeByList script. This is the way I do it:

        text {findWhat: "", fontStyle:"Italic"}

Notice that I used the Text command, but GREP should work just as fine.

I found the non-italic text and deleted all of it and then sorted the italics that were left. Took a while but its done.

I will try out your what you advise on another publication and let you know how it turned out. Thanks so much for this help.
