      Hello folks,

From a recent discussion on the forum:

TEXT FIND IN THE XML TAGS

…it just came to my mind, if there is a way to find tag markers using Find/Change.

In Story Editor these can be seen as Opening <myTag> and Closing </myTag> tag markers whereas in the InDesign Document these can be identified with non-printing Brackets [ ] symbols in multiple colours.

I also noticed that in Find/Change — Change Format Settings, there is an option to apply XML Tag to the Find string, whereas this XML Tag option is unavailable in the Find Format Settings.

The Find/Change to find tag markers didn’t work neither in the Document nor in the Story Editor.

So my question is, how this can be achieved.

Hi Masood, I have the same query, using a grep to reduce type size in a dynamic template it reduces the text but not the leading which is set to auto, on investigation the “hidden” tag characters still maintain the original type height, perhaps somebody out there knows the answer?

Hi John, I have a doubt here. To my knowledge these tags won’t effect the formatting since they are hidden. In your case I’ll suggest to check the font size of the last RETURN character, I’m sure that might be the hidden-culprit.

Secondly, try clicking on the Check Box for “Apply Leading to Entire Paragraphs” under the “Type” pane of the InDesign Preferences dialog box.

      Hope it helps.

Tried all those, its one line, one box, no extraneous characters like this.

[XXth] [Month], i’m using a character count ie ^.{10,12}, for the grep to reduce size for the longer months.

The two middle tag markers change size the outer two don’t, even changing the leading has no effect its still sees the outer tag markers at the original size

John, can you send me the snippet to closely identify the cause.
