Eyedropper tool affecting text below paragraph to be styled

I'm having problems with the eyedropper tool. Whenever I pick up a style to be copied and then apply it to a paragraph, the paragraph underneath the paragraph I'm trying to style always get affected. This second paragraph is picking up the leading from the paragraph above which is having the style applied. I do have the eyedropper set to copy leading but I don't understand why the paragraph below is being affected. And it doesn't seem to be affected by the setting in the “next style” setting of the style I'm copying.

Any ideas other than rebuilding preferences (I hate doing that). This used to work before.
