    I downloaded the scripts, extractpages.jsx, extractpagesCS55.jsx and MakeItRun.jsxbin from the exercise files of Lynda.com Creating a Fixed-Layout ePub and dragged them into the ePub folder in my Samples folder of my Scripts panel. It’s right there, when I open my Applications file from my hard-drive and look at it.
    I saved my InDesign file, as instructed.However, when I double-click on extractpagesCS55.jsx, I get a message that says,Can’t find script file”/Applications/Adobe inDesign CS5.5/Scripts/Scripts Panel/epub/extractpages.jsx”
    So, I downloaded MakeItRun from the InDesign Secrets website and used it to try to make either extractpages.jsx OR extractpagesCS55.jsx run. It created new scripts each time. When I double-click on either of these, I get a message that says Error: No file is associated with the currently active script. I tried selecting all the pages and double-clicking, and got the same error message.
    Why will this not work? I need it to create a fixed-layout ePub, and AM Concepcion does not say how to create individual InDesign files without it.
    Please HELP! Thank you.

    I think you just have the scripts in the wrong place.
    First, copy the .jsx files.
    Next, open the Scripts panel, click the down arrow, and select Reveal in Finder (Mac) or Reveal in Explorer (Win).
    Paste.
    Your scripts should now appear in the User folder in the Scripts Panel ready for use.

    I did exactly as you said, even though I knew that they were in the right place in the Scripts panel, already. I copied the scripts from the downloaded exercise files from Lynda.com and pasted them into the scripts panel, in Finder. Same problem, now. When I double-click on the extractpagesCS55.jsx, I get the same message: Can’t find script file “/Applications/Adobe InDesign Cs5.5/Scripts/Scripts Panel/epub/extractpages.jsx”

    I imagine that my only other option is to manually create individual InDesign files for each of 34 pages, before going on to the next step of creating a Fixed Layout epub?

    Cheryl, 2 things. First, a fix, I think, for your scripts issue; then, a better solution that came out since I recorded the video.

    The fix: Make sure you’re putting the scripts into an epub folder in your Applications folder. They should be in the path specified in the alert message: ?/Applications/Adobe InDesign Cs5.5/Scripts/Scripts Panel/epub/extractpages.jsx?”

    Do not put them into the same-named Scripts/Scripts Panel folder in your User folder, as Bob suggest. (Normally a good solution Bob!)

    The better solution: If that still doesn’t work, then I urge you to ignore all that and just use Rorohiko’s free “ePubCrawler” script.

    They wrote the CSSGeometry.jsx one I showed in the lynda.com video. After it went live, I continued working with them, and ePubCrawler is the latest evolution of that script.

    It’s essentially a “make fixed layout epub” solution from any InDesign file. It’s what I use now. When I get the opportunity to update that video, I’ll be scuttling mention of all those workarounds for ID files and instead I’ll show ePubCrawler as well as a couple new commercial plug-ins (Flipick and CircularFlo for now).

    I reviewed ePubCrawler and showed before/after of a sample kid’s book in an issue of InDesign Magazine last fall.

    Hi, Anne-Marie,

    Thanks so much for your recommendation of ePubCrawler. I tried it out and, for the most part, it’s a miracle!

    However, the type on my InDesign file (all of which has a Paragraph Style applied to it) is exporting too large and with what looks like an extra space between lines. And, some text frames exported to locations different from the ones I obtained by using the CSsGeometry2.jsx script (and are in the wrong place on the page). Also, and this is important for my children’s book, I don’t know how to make pages export as spreads, either.

    I think I’m supposed to be able to adjust some things on the config.inn file that downloaded with ePubCrawler 2.5. However, the file I’ve got looks nothing at all like either the one on Rorohiko’s website, or your article in InDesign magazine. Those have a lot of information and editable text. Mine has two lines, which read: “This is the config.ini file for the default ePubStyle. It can override settings made in the top-level config.ini file”. I think I should have gotten that top-level config.ini file, don’t you?

    Do you think I should download an older version of ePubCrawler, just to get that top-level config.ini file? Or how else can I solve the problems with the type and make the pages export as spreads?

    Cheryl, so happy that helped!

    I think you should contact Kris at Rorohiko w/your ePubCrawler questions, as I’m not knowledgeable enough with it to help you, sorry!

    Have you watched his videos on it? He has about 6 of them on his site, explaining how to use it and how to manipulate the .ini file to get what you want, etc.

    I really appreciate your personal response, here. You’ll perhaps see that I posted “Problem with Spreads Using EPubCrawler”, yesterday, crossing with this reply in the mail, so to speak.

    Unfortunately, I sent similar emails to Rorohiko’s support address concerning both problems (I got the type issue to resolve; now I just can’t make it create the spreads right. It’s compressing the entire spread onto each facing page). No-one from Rorohiko has responded.

    I did watch all six videos (even printed them out and highlighted and underlined things!) but he is mum on the topic of spreads.

    Unless he gets back to me in the next few days, I suppose I’ll have to go back to the work-around method that you described in the Lynda.com tutorial. Since the extractpages script won’t work for me at all, I guess that means creating 34 individual InDesign files, which will be tedious. But, at least it will make me some spreads, in the end. :)
