      Hi All

I’ve just realised that InDesign CC2014 and 2015 load extra fonts without my consent. I use Suitcase for loading the fonts necessary for each job I work on, and have trimmed down the fonts to the basic needed in the Mac OS X System Folder, and removed all fonts in the Library and User Library.

This gives me control over fonts that are loaded.

I’ve just noticed that in InDesign CS3 to CC only the fonts I have in the System Folder and in Suitcase are loaded – as it should be.

In CC2015 and 2014 there are extra ones loaded that I can’t turn off – e.g. Minion Pro, Myriad Pro, Kozuka Gothic, Kozuka Mincho, Adobe Ming, Adobe Song, Adobe Myungjo, Adobe Arabic, Adobe Hebrew, Adobe Devanagari, Arial.

But as I write this, I’ve now just noticed that this could be something Adobe has been doing for a long time as InDesign CS3, CS4, CS5, CS5.5, CS6 and CC have the font Adobe SD Gothic Neo loaded when I have not turned it on anywhere.

Does anybody know where these fonts come from? Why is there more now loaded in CC2014 and 2015? Where do these fonts live so I can turn them off?

Do you think this is something Adobe should do without consultation with the user – a choice would be nice?

Cheers in advance for any comments or help.

Well, you’ve already cleaned out your library font and user library font folders, so there goes my first suggestion.

The best way to find out where they are is to create a new ID document and type a few lines. Apply the font in question and select “fonts” and click the font and click for more info. It should give you the path to where the font is located. And once you find that folder, you can bet that the rest of those fonts are in there as well.

I too hate it when Adobe installs those fonts all the time. I have spent more time going to all the computers in my shop creating “Disabled Fonts” folders and moving them into there.

Even a simple update will re-install the damn things.

      Thanks for you answer Dwayne.

I now know where these fonts come from. They are in different places in CC2015 and CC2014.

In InDesign CC2015 they are in Applications / Adobe InDesign CC 2015 / Resources / Required/Fonts

In InDesign CC2014 they are in Applications / Adobe InDesign CC 2014 – SHOW PACKAGE to look within the Application – / Contents / MacOS / Required / Fonts

They definitely don’t want us to remove these fonts do they!!!!!

^^You’re right. It seems they don’t want us to get rid of them.

I hate it when applications install fonts.
