To export a high quality grayscale PDF from InDesign, you go to Export > Adobe PDF Print > Output > Convert to Destination (right?). That gives me 15 different grayscale options, including various dot gain and gray gamma values as well as some device-specific values. Is there any good resource on what options are best for what circumstances? There doesn't seem to be anything in the CS6 help files.

I don't have a specific problem to solve right now, just trying to get to know this feature. Thanks for any clues!

If you are going to be printing this document, check with your commercial printer to see what dot gain they recommend. If it's grayscale mostly for screen display (not sure why you'd do that), I'd probably go for gamma 2.2.
