Exporting to epub – preserving text on path

      Hello,
I am looking for a solution to the following problem:
I need to export files from InDesign to an epub format. I am using the built-in export feature of InDesign CC 2015. It works pretty well, but I have problems with exporting text on paths – any curved/bended text is converted into the background graphic and it’s not editable.
In the xhtml I would need it to be represented as an SVG inside the page with the text placed in the <text> elements. In other words, it needs to be selectable in the web browser, because this will need to be used in readloud epubs where we need to be able to apply styles to elements.

So, what would be the process (regardless whether involving external tools or not) of exporting such a content?

      Thanks in advance for help!

Correct, InDesign does not currently support SVG import or export. I have been pushing Adobe to add this, because I think it would be very helpful. Illustrator can create SVG files, but you cannot place them into InDesign (at this time) and have them exported in the EPUB file. You could probably crack the epub file and add an SVG file manually, though.

The CircularFLO utility can convert InDesign path text to selectable text. It’s $199/ebook and only creates fixed layout epubs and mobi’s, but you can use a free trial to create 10 pages worth to test out.

Yeah, but the pricing of CircularFLO is (sorry to say that) absolutely ridiculous:)

      Thank you all for responses!

      Regarding the pricing of CircularFLO…

Static text on a path for books under 50 pages works out actually only $99 per book.
And for full automatic read aloud including text on a path too it is $199.

If that is still too steep and you like to code then the free trial will output the text on a path SVG code for you to steal!

Spending days doing this manually is obviously a better use of your time and money, Bartosz, but for others please look here for more info https://www.circularflo.com/purchasing-options/

      Thanks

Haha, with all the respect, this is silly:)
Doing it manually would still be cheaper than $100-200 per book:)

Anyway, we have found a much better solution – not just from the pricing point of view, but also quality-wise at http://www.kerntiff.co.uk.

Their Baker Export plugin (https://www.kerntiff.co.uk/products-4-indesign/baker-export) does everything we need – plus the customer support is really helpful and dedicated.

      Cheers!
