Exporting PDF/X-4:2008 not bleeding

Can anyone confirm whether it’s just me…

InDesign 2017: When I’m exporting a PDF/X-4:2008 with crops and bleed the outputted PDF doesn’t have bleed added. PDF/X-3:2002 does have them,
Opening the same file in InDesign 2015 I can create a PDF/X-4:2008 with crops and bleed output so I’m thinking it’s a bug…

You don’t get bleed in a PDF/X4 unless you turn on the “use document bleed settings” (or set them yourself). That’s the way it has always been, I think. (Annoying, but it’s just one more thing you need to check when making a PDF.)

Even with ‘use document bleed settings’ or adding it manually I have no bleed. Which is why I’m convinced something is wrong.

Oh! Well yes, that is strange. Are you viewing it in Acrobat? Or some other PDF viewer?

I’m using CC 2017 and I make PDF/X-4 files all the time with bleed.

could it be, that you either don’t have any bleed set up in your document or that you chose the PDF-Preset AFTER setting the export options for bleed?

Nope, my document has 3mm bleed. And it says so in the PDF dialogue box too. Might have to do a uninstall/reinstall. It’s driving me crazy.
