      Hi everyone,

I’m using InDesign CC. I’ve created a file that will need to be translated. I was told the vendor needs to have the file in INX format and that I need to export the file (choose File > Export. Choose InDesign Interchange (INX) as the type (Windows). Click Save.
You can now open the INX file in a previous version and save it as an InDesign document.) I don’t see that option to export to INX.

What can I do to export the file so that the vendor can use it?

      Thanks in advance.

I always have the type tool active and positioned in a text box (no text selected). Then I export.

If one of the arrow tools is active instead, I don’t believe you will see the option.

Are you sure they want INX? That would mean they’re still using CS3. If they use CS4, 5, 5.5, or 6, you can export your file to IDML, which your customer can then open in their version. If they really want INX, then you’ll have to export your file to IDML, then open the file in CS4 and export it to INX from there.

Thanks Dwayne and Peter. The translations group (another dept. in my company) got back to me to say the company who provides the service can accept INX or IDML files. So that’s good news.

From previous experience at both ends of the process, I’d advise doing a small test file round-trip through the process to make sure the whole thing works. Some CAT (computer-aided translation) tools are a bit sniffy over IDML versions.

      Viel Glück,
      Chris
