I have a project with lots of pictures and thinking there must be a function that makes it possible to work with low-resolution images through to export and then to replace them if the images is called img_1342_low.jpg and img_1342_high.tiff and are placed in diferent folders..

      I have looked and Google’d a lot..
Please help with a tuts or what you know..

If you kept two folders, one called ‘Low’ with the low res pictures in, and one called ‘High’ with the hires, you could set your document up with all of the LR images. Then when the time came you could move the ‘Low’ folder somewhere else in your file structure. InDesign would lose the links and display a yellow alert triangle. Then you can pick the first image and relink it to the appropriate image in the ‘High’ folder. ID will then update all of the images with the hires equivalents. This will only work if they have the same name, however.

To be honest, since ID works on a linked basis and you have the option of viewing different resolutions when working on a file, I would just put the hires files in from the start, but this would work.

Salieri’s suggestion will work, but using Relink to Folder would be a better solution than the hide ‘n’ seek option: https://creativepro.com/relink-from-one-image-file-type-to-another.php

However, I believe Ronni is looking for something more akin to OPI or Scitex’s APR (Automatic Picture Replacement). Here’s what looks to be an old explanation: https://www.iptech.com/Home/News/Feature_Article/feature_article_-_why_we_still.html

I used Scitex APR “back in the day” but it hardly seems necessary nowadays as Salieri implies.

Ronni, I assume you must have quite a handful of images to make the query. I can’t say I’ve ever seen such a thing. My sense is that you need somehing like the Relink to Folder ability added to the PEU (Page Exporter Utility) script. I’m not a scripter, so I don’t even know if that’s possible.

Sorry, I know that’s not much help. Good luck.

      Ronni,

Great. I’m glad that will work for you. The links panel has quite the feature set so don’t ever dismiss it.
