ePub doesn't play music after page turn

Hi, I’m creating a childrens ePub where I would like a music track to play as they go through the book.

Unfortunately when you move onto the next page the track stops, I’ve tried everything I can think of in InDesign (I’ve unchecked the “stop on page turn” button, I don’t really know why that button is there if it stops on page turn anyway). I’ve created both an interactive pdf and ePub that I’ve opened in iBooks-both have the same issue.

Any help would be welcome, thanks.

      Hi Dan

This is an Apple iBooks feature and I don’t think this is possible using InDesign alone.

CircularFLO https://www.circularflo.com has this feature. See more info here https://www.circularflo.com/instructions/#background_soundtracks_and_page_turns

An example CircularFLO EPUB with background soundtracks added can be opened into iBooks on the Mac or directly into iBooks on iOS from here https://circularsoftware.com/XMAS/Ken_Jones_21.epub (the file is 34MB so may take a little while to show…)

Alternatively, if you are into hand coding, check page 69 of the iBooks Asset Guide https://itunesconnect.apple.com/docs/iBooksAssetGuide5.1Revision2.pdf

      Thanks
      Ken

I did this for one of my client’s eBooks. Each word is highlighted as it is spoken by a voice actor. You should be able to do this with music as well. On apple the pages turn and the dialog starts again. You have to set up an smil files to do this. It has to be included in the xhtml and elsewhere in the programming. If you send me an email, I will give you all the information you need. I will need to send you a attachment.

Janis you are mistaken… You can have audio continue across page turn on Apple iBooks (that was the question here) and you don’t need to set up SMIL files to achieve this.

So did you solve the problem. I looked back at the eBook I formatted and I didn’t include music. I did include it in the book trailer video.
I think it would be a nice touch to have some soft music in the background as the words are read. Let me know.

      Thanks,

      Janis
