You've all been so keen on eDocker for flipping pages that I went ahead and voted at Adobe as suggested because I can see I really really want to use it.

After downloading the free trial a few weeks ago I tried very hard with eDocker and got nowhere. I asked loads of questions but never really understood the answers (wish I spoke Finnish). I looked at the stuff at its website and downloaded documentation, but nothing. Honestly, I'm not that dim but perhaps I'm spoiled by Apple and Adobe interfaces because eDocker's interface had absolutely nothing self-explanatory about it.

I know you're all so very busy but I wondered if someone could write/set up a plain English (American even!!) tutorial?

I'll add it to my wish list anyway!

Interesting! Are there particular areas of eDocker that you found difficult?

You export one or more SWFs, you launch eDocker, you add the SWFs, you export the final result. That's the basics. Then there are a bunch of other little details, depending on what you want to add to the package.

From what I recall, I think the least-understood parts are the script to export searchable text. But you don't have to use those.

Let's brainstorm where the problem parts are, and perhaps that will help the folks in Finland fine-tune their Help.

      I haven't tried eDocker

I use Flipping Book – you export a PDF from InDesign and load that into Flipping Book. The people I've recommended it to all said that it was very good and easy to do. I can export from InDesign and have a Flipping Book uploaded in about 10 minutes to the website.

Very fast and easy to use. Perhaps it may be worth a look?

It's a client of mine who just loves his company's brochures to flip pages online — and he subscribes to get this done. So, because I design all the booklets/brochures for him, I made a copy of one, added the page turning transition, exported it (from InD CS5) as a SWF and, as far as I remember, opened the trial version of eDocker which presented me with a sort of 3/4 column interface with nothing very explanatory in it. I think I managed to place the booklet in it and export something which, in FireFox, looked small and disappointingly like the SWF export from InD — where each spread (of 2 pages) was a single page, including the front cover which had a blank page to its left. Euw!

I tried Flipping Book too and don't understand your appealing suggestion, Eugene, of 'loading' the PDF into Flipping Book. It seemed to want me to open a text file and type a list of pages …

I'll see if I can download some more free trials.

I'm not sure what you downloaded?

I downloaded the FlippingBook HTML edition because the main product only works on Windows and I'm on a Mac. As far as I remember, I had to save each page as a JPG, open various files provided by page flip, configure and all sorts of things. It was quite beyond me and I never seem to have the time to concentrate on anything that's going to take longer to learn than 5-10 minutes.

      Oh right

I also tried the HTML verison but didn't find it very useful.

The top one is the one I have. It allows you to insert a PDF and it's really easy to publish the final flipping book.

That one's available only for Windows … oh well, I'll see if eDocker will let me download another trial version, otherwise I'm stumped! Thanks for the replies.

Maybe you can use the Flippingbook Photographer as a temporary work-around solution until they've added a Mac version for the regular Flippingbook software? It'll probably give less ideal results, but it's relatively cheap and could be enough for what you need done for now.

Hi. I've just been trying out Flipping Book Publisher https://page-flip.com/ which seems very good and less clunky than eDocker https://www.prepress.fi/eDocker_eng/.

However, neither Flipping Book nor eDocker appear to be able to carry across any of the animations that one might create in InDesign. Is this at all possible for a page flip magazine type publication, not an ePub, tablet version as per the Adobe Digital Publishing Suite?

If not, seems a shame :(

Another thing for the folks at eDocker – the three day trial is just not long enough. At least with Flipping Book Publisher you can try it out with there being no rush (and in between projects).

      Hi everyone!

I´m a project manager of eDocker. I´m sorry to hear that eDocker has caused troubles… it´s very unusual. We have sold huge amount of licenses to over 30 countries all over the world and got very few complains.

Here´s a link to small video that hopefully shows you the basic steps how to use eDocker:

      https://www.youtube.com/watch?v…..dW828VLanY

That´s about new eDocker 2 which has some nice new features. As you can see from video, you can use videos, animations etc. interactive stuff in InDesign CS5 and eDockers supports them.

I don´t think we gonna make our tiral period longer, but we are happy to extend it by request (email us to support[at]edocker.com)
