      Hello:
I imported a large Word doc into InDesign (latest version, PC). There have been some issues… The latest is the bookmarks panel. I have hundreds of bookmarks with weird names from Word. When I double-click on it, it seems to go to the location in the text, but it is very hard to see the cursor. I think these are anchors to each image in the file. (This is a technical manual with 850 images). So I am pretty sure I have a bookmark for each image, and possibly each caption beneath each image.
      1. I would like to confirm this. As I said double-clicking them is not very helpful. Is there some way to highlight them?
      2. If I can confirm they are just anchors for each image, I might be able to just delete them.
      3. Otherwise, if I decide to keep them, is there a script or some other easy way to rename them all?
      Here’s an image:

      Thanks.

You can see bookmarks more easily if you select the story and choose Edit > Edit in Story Editor.
I’m not sure why Word would be putting all those bookmarks in there. You may be able to find a way to remove them in Word before importing.
If you want to delete the bookmarks, you should be able to do that in the panel easily.

      Thanks David:
I think they are tied to my figure references. But as I noted it is hard for me to tell. So it is safe to delete them. Good to know.
I wanted to figure out if they were useful before doing that. Maybe rename them.
Is there a way to select them (and even rename) in the story editor?
      Thanks

You can rename them in the Bookmarks panel. There may be a way to rename them with a custom script, but I don’t know of any, sorry!
