What’s the best method (if any) for creating a series of drop cap figures as a font? Or as Glyphs?
I am publishing a licensed series of western novels from the 1940s … appeared in a pulp magazine. Each chapter’s opening paragraph had a unique drop cap — a hand drawn letter with a small graphic pertaining to the genre. The letter “F” might also show a saddle … letter “G” might show a badge, etc. I’ve been placing these using the “anchored object” command. I just experimented with saving “object settings” and then pasting the graphic with the cursor. Seems to do the same thing as “anchored object” with slightly less hassle.
More than likely, if I wanted a faster method to place these things, I would have to save the graphics as “glyphs.” Any suggestions?

There are many options for making fonts.
There is a tool called IndyFont which actually lets you make fonts inside InDesign! https://indiscripts.com/category/projects/IndyFont
Another insanely cool tool is called FontSelf, which lets you make fonts from Photoshop or Illustrator: https://www.fontself.com
(Note that the SVG fonts it makes will generally work in InDesign, but not necessarily for all output. It’s worth testing!)
However, you can also use Find/Change to insert graphics, which may work for you:
