    Hi all,

    I'm not sure if this has been asked here (can't find anything) or if it's the appropriate place to pose the question so here goes.

    I'm using Adobe DPS though at the moment I'm still on the learning curve. However, with the upgrade to v19 of the tools it no longer works with the iPad content viewer (well not until Apple approves the upgrade), I'm sure a lot of you already know this and are, like me, following the thread on the Adobe forum.

    So whilst I've been waiting I've been looking around to see what alternatives there are and if any of them are worthwhile. Someone mentioned this on the Adobe forum but that post was quickly deleted by, I assume, Adobe. Fair enough.

    Has anyone here had any experience with any DPS alternatives, the ones I've come accross so far are – Mags+ and Twixl. Are they any good, are there any others or is the best options to stick with Adobe and wait.

    I welcome any feedback.

    Hi Graeme,

    First of all, full disclosure: I work for Mag+.

    Mag+ is an alternative to Adobe DPS that many perceive as smoother and easier to work with. For example, the quick review where you can push the changes you made to your design directly to you iPad is appreciated. However, since I work for Mag+ it doesn't really matter what I say – of course I'm going to like what we do. What I'd suggest you do is download our tools. They're free, all you need is InDesign, since one of our tools is a plugin for it, and our Reviewer App for iPad (or Android Tablets/Kindle Fire). That one is free too. You can get the tools https://www.magplus.com/signup You can either ask our users on our Facebook page, or you can tweet your question and mention us and we'll retweet you.

    If you prefer to get started on your own, I'd recommend looking at our videos at https://www.youtube.com/magplus – you've got playlists there, and there are a couple getting started webinars that might be of interest for you.

    Since I'm already here doing shameless promotion for Mag+, I might as well mention that we're currently hosting a contest for designers: create your own app/magazine/appzine with our tools and you can win $5000. During April and May we're also giving away an iPad to someone who's created someting neat.     Do you have a blow-by-blow (feature-by-feature) comparision of your product compared to Adobe's and possibly Woodwing's?

    I'm really sorry for the late reply, Gmail did for some reason mark the notifications from InDesignsecrets as “spam”so I found it during my weekly check.

    We don't have a blow by blow comparison, but it's a really good idea to do one. I'm going to write it down as one idea for to produce. Thank you for that!

    If there's anything in particular you'd like to know, that you can't easily find an answer to, please let me know. Hopefully, now the notifications won't be marked as spam anymore.

    QuarkXpress 9.1 tool is the better alternative of digital publication suite where it includes various factors such as Support for iPad retina screen and support some code like Xcode 4.3x on Mac OS.

    just like Mike, I'm going to add my shameless plug here, as I work for the company that makes iTablo.

    Although it's not exactly an alternative to Adobe DPS, you might want to check it out anyway. The product at its core is a PDF reader, meaning that you start from a PDF file coming from any source and add all of the interactive content in our own designer that can be download for free from our site here: https://www.itablo.com/download/. All you've got to do is signup for a free trial license.

    When you're done, you deploy your work on your iPad through iTunes and our iTablo PDF+ Viewer, which is a free app available on the App Store.

    We offer two kind of solutions for publishing on the App Store: iTablo Book that has a fixed one-time price and your app will contain just one PDF, and iTablo Kiosk which is an online kiosk where you can publish all you want and that offers features like subscriptions, push notifications, analytics, etc.. for an annual subscription price.

    I'm afraid the subtitles aren't in English. There will be new videos and a new international site online soon, but in the meanwhile you should be able to see an overview of the products.

    To Tanis and Pavel,
    Do your products have an option that allows the user to publisher “standalone” apps to use privately on my own iPad or phone? That is, I want to be able to make an app that I won’t be selling, and use it only for myself, woithout having to pay a publication fee.
