I just discovered DocFlow, and I am loving it so far, as I oversee document creation with many many authors and have previously had to copy+paste every single time my colleagues make the tiniest edit. (DocFlow allows you to link a Google Doc with InDesign text, so when the Google Doc is edited, you see a modified link in your links panel and can automatically update).

However, I notice that once the text shows up in InDesign, it does not register paragraph breaks that are present in the Google Doc. For exmaple.

      This in Google Docs:

      1

      2

      3

Shows up like this in InDesign:

      1
      2
      3

I have formatting turned on and so far, it has updated any formatting changes I make in Google Docs, such as font, alignment, bullets, color etc. It registers other line breaks, just not empty lines between paragraphs.

Any idea how to resolve this? Thanks!

In general, it’s better to use the Space Before (or Space After) feature to put spaces between paragraphs, rather than blank paragraphs.

If you have multiple sequential paragraph returns, then DocsFlow will by default collapse them into a single return, on the theory (as David notes) that it’s best to use paragraph formatting (space before/after) rather than new paragraphs, to get desired space.

That said, if you really want to keep your extra returns, go to

File > DocsFlow > Import Options > General > Collapse all empty paragraphs

      and turn that off.

If you have further questions or problems, I’d encourage you to send them to support@emsoftware.com. Only David’s kind notice let me know you had a DocsFlow question here.

      Cheers!
