Hi all, I am needing some assistance if possible.
Mac OSX 10.8.4 – InDesign 5.5 – 50 page section of book. I am currently trying to delete one page and move another. I am trying do this via the normal methods through the Pages menu. I have completed both of these procedures successfully dozens of times before. However this time I am receiving the following error message “Requested operation would cause one or more objects to be too small” “Please check whether the stroke weight is to large”

Both pages have schematic drawings imported from Illustrator. Outside of that there is the normal text and a couple of images.

I have tried grouping all the elements to the pasteboard and deleting the empty page = unsuccessful

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

      Look forward to your reply.

      Thanks

      Ralph

That is very odd. I’d try exporting to IDML, then opening that IDML file and trying again. Maybe there’s some corruption or weirdness in there.

Thanks for the reply David, I will try it and advise.

P.S I have been using Creative Suite for over ten years now and I still get heaps of great info from the courses you and Anne-Marie put together, love it.

        Thanks again

Hi David, I ended up creating a new document and moving the pages one by one to see if I could isolate the problem. In going through it there was one page that crashed the entire program and after scouring through that page the only anomaly I found was a small (empty) text frame.

I believe this has now rectified the problem.

      Thanks

I have the same problem with smalls empty text frames when I change the page numbering (even to odd or vice-versa). Why this happen? Some text frames just disappear and go to the middle of the pages like the picture below:

        David… What causes this problem??

        Sorry for the poor english.

Thiago: That is very weird. It could be document corruption. As I said above, try exporting as IDML and then opening that IDML file. Objects should not move like that.

Try creating a new document and replicate the master pages, margins, the master page items, create them all new.

Then in the Pages Panel, from your troublesome document, choose Move Pages, and select the target to be your new document.

Move all the pages to the new document and see if the problem persists.

Sorry for reviving an old thread. Found this thread while searching for the answer about strange tiny objects appearing and getting stuck in the centre of a spread. We have experienced this a few times in some of our catalogues and has cause alot of problems similar to what Thiago experienced.

After much fiddling around, we found out by deleting the strange 1 pixel frames (if you call it that way) ‘trapped’ in the centre, it resolves the error “Requested operation would cause one or more objects to be too small, Please check whether the stroke weight is too large” when adding or deleting pages.

To locate these objects, we go through each spreads and use select all with show frames activated. The offending object shows up as a dot selected in the centre of the spread.

Thought I’d also chime in on this old thread. First to thank KL Tan as that led me to my solution.

In my case it was a little different. The problem item was a line that originally was defined in Illustrator as 0 height, with a 1 pt stroke. I copied it from illustrator to InDesign, which drew it as a rectangle (1 point high) that had no stroke. I could not make the rectangle 1/2 point tall without getting this error.

Somehow, the “0 height” line still existed within that rectangle. It wasn’t grouped with it, I couldn’t click and draw to select it. But if I pressed ctrl+A, it appeared in the center of the 1 point high rectangle. Also weird, transform controls showed that the rectangle had a height, but where you’d normally see “0 pt” for an object with no stroke, the field was blank. I could type “0 pt” in there and it would appear to work, but then when I clicked off the line and clicked it again, it would again be blank.

Anyway… I fixed it by using the “Swap stroke and fill” arrow below all my tools, which temporarily gave it a fat stroke, and then clicking it again. After the second click it worked like a normal box, with a height and 0pt stroke. I could resize without the error.

Hope that helps someone else. Weird bug.
