      HI there

I would like to delete all the instances of double spaces in my ID document. I have been trying to use ‘Find/Change’ but every time i type a double space in ‘find what’ and then a single space in ‘change to’ i get the message “cannot find match”. I tried copying the text into word and it found 38 instances so i know they are there.

I’m sure this use to work before, so this is really frustrating. I am on CS6 and have just upgraded to OS Sierra.

Any help or suggestions would be most welcome.

      Thank you.

Make sure your find dialogue is empty of everything except for those two spaces. Make sure no styles or formatting is in effect.

Also uncheck whole words if that’s checked.

Thank you Dwayne. I hope all is well with you sir!

Yeah, i have been doing all you have suggested, still no luck.

Hey Andy–things are well with me. I hope the same for you.

That is weird about what you’re going through, though I have had that happen to me in the past with newer versions of Indesign. Sometimes Indesign gets a brain fart.

This may sound odd–but search for a single space and replace with two spaces. Then search for two spaces and replace with one. You have have to do that second search/replace a second time.

That may force InDesign to wake up.

There is a built-in “Abfrage” (I’m using a german version of InDesign) in the Find-Change dialog to change all multiple spaces to one space. Does this work?

“Multiple space to single space” Amazing Dieter! That did it! Thank you so much!!!

        Dieter was right :)

I forgot all about the built-in search/replace that InDesign has. Well, I didn’t forget, but forgot what it was called.

Glad you got the help you needed, Andy.

        Have a good weekend.
