A client of mine wants to use a database import plugin for a 300-page catalog with lots of tables in it (price lists). InData from Em software would be a great solution except it doesn’t support import into table cells (adding rows as needed, etc.). We could use it to generate the data tables as rows of tabbed text, and then copy/paste that info into the tables and add/delete rows manually, but it’s not an ideal workflow.
So, I read up on BookDB from Sabern, a Dutch company. Their product looks promising, but it costs a whopping $3,800 for 1 year and then 15% of that (over $500) for a yearly subscription. They only do the one catalog per year plus a few rebranded versions . . . so it’s a lot to pay for that functionality.
The data comes from a database and is provided to them in Excel spreadsheets.
Does anyone know of a good database import solution for InDesign that can import into table cells that doesn’t cost so much?
