Data Merge issue

      Hello,

      I am working on an InDesign document and I am using the Data merge feature. I have had success with this process in the past, but I now find myself in a situation I can’t figure out. I have selected my data source and the Excel column headers display in the panel. After I dragged them into each text frame, they are also visible. However, when I select Preview from the panel, some of the Excel text populates correctly, but others disappear. The End-of-Story symbol is all I see. I removed all characters from the Excel headers that are not compatible with InDesign. The only thing I thought may be causing the problem is that I deleted a few columns in Excel and the column letter designations are not consecutive. I then copied the info and pasted it into a new spreadsheet but it did not solve the problem.

      Has this happened to anyone else and if so, how can I get all of the entries to populate correctly.

      Any advice you can provide is greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance!

      When you say the column letter designations are not consecutive, do you mean the letters that Excel provides along the top edge? If those are not consecutive, then there’s a chance that some are hidden. You may have to right-click on the boundary and choose “Unhide” from the context menu.

      Another option is to export as CSV and then open that CSV in Excel… that way, there should be no formatting at all.

      Thank you David for the quick reply. Yes, the letters Excel provides along the top edge. They are currently A-B – C – G -H – etc. I did not know you could hide columns. I will check that and read the suggested articles.
