      Hello!
I work in the Architectural field and it is not uncommon to come back in and add pages after a document has been submitted. However, when we do this we add a .01 .02 ,etc to the original page number. For example a document would be numbered pages 1-30. If we want to add a page after page 20 that new page would be 20.01 and add another page it would be 20.02. Is there any way to set up numbering that would allow for this without breaking the automatic numbering?

For “weird” page numbering like that, you can sometimes use paragraph numbering instead of page numbering, which I outline here:

Depending on how you define “break the automatic numbering,” you could just start a new section for 20.1 with the section prefix “20.” and then start a new section for page 21 after your new page(s) to resume your existing numbering. If you added or removed pages before 20 you’d have to adjust your section settings but otherwise the auto numbering would update correctly. This is all controlled in Layout > Numbering & Section Options.
