My company switched from CS3 to CS5 a while back. We have our templates set up with text frames in master pages; we never set up columns, as they weren't necessary. In CS3, I was able to place a lot of text by holding down the shift key with my cursor loaded with the text in the first text frame, and it went into the master page text frames, and added more based on the text frames in the master page.

However, I have noticed that in CS5, it won't go into the text frames at all when I hold down shift (it adds new pages, but it just makes one huge text frame that covers the page instead of using the existing text frames). The only way it seems I am still able to do that is if I make columns, which I would prefer not to do, as I cannot make the columns match up with all of the text frames.

I am aware of the new “smart text reflow” feature. However, that is not helpful to me, as do not always want that on, and it is a pain to constantly go into into preference to turn it on and off. Has anyone else been having this problem, and does anyone know how to fix it, if possible?
