      Hi all,

I'm currently using this script to place line numbers to the left of a passage. I would like to be able to reference those line numbers later in my document, for example saying “in line 8 of the passage the word eccentric is used to mean strange.” Is there any way to cross-reference/link to line numbers or do I have to keep track of them manually?

      Thanks!

I can't think of any way to do that when the numbers are added “manually” like that. You can make x-refs that point to paragraph numbers when you use automatic numbering, though, I believe.

Great, thank you for the tip! In that case, do you know of any way to make automatic numbering display only every fifth number? That was my main motivation for using that script.

So, the solution we've come up with is to use both the script and the automatic line numbering. By making the line numbering invisible and 1% horizontal and vertical scale, we can still use them to cross reference, but they aren't displayed. Rather, the numbers from the script are what is shown.
