Cross references break when layer is duplicated

I have the problem that in a document I’m working on, there are some page number cross references linking to a text anchor on a different document (both docs are used in the same book file). I need to duplicate the layer that the cross references are on, but they break every time when the layer is duplicated.

Is this normal, or how can I avoid this? I’ll need to repeat this process on all 110 documents in the book!

      Thanks in advance,
      Klaas

Here’s my resolution for this, seems like we’re the only ones doing this!

If you want to duplicate a layer which has cross references on it that link to external documents, first open all the referenced docs (you can do this by clicking on the green circles in the cross reference panel) and then duplicate the layer.
      This will preserve the references.
