I have an A4 600 page book containing up to 3,000 hi-res colour images which has been printed successfully. I now need to create an eBook using In5, so think it wise to reduce the file sizes.

Many of the images are bigger than the image containers they sit inside. Is there a script or workflow where I can crop the images to the exact size of the image boxes within InDesign?

Am I right to assume that cropping the images like this would be a good first stage for reducing the document file size before looking in to image resolution?

      Thanks

If you are going to use in5 to export the file, there is no need to ‘crop the images to the size of the boxes’ or to lower the resolution. in5 take care of all of this for you at export time, automatically.

you don’t need to, just choose a lower resolution on export and InDesign will clip to frame
