I’m attempting to create a reporting document for the work I do as a security professional, thus far I have the visual design that I want my next challenges are, to somehow create a interface where I can add the customer name, project title, dates, document control information and other pieces to pre-populate the longdocument – so, ideally when I launch the template, indesign will ask/prompt me for key information such as who the customer is, is the document sensitive, what dates are being charged for, so on and so fourth

once i’ve battled that beast, it’s on to importing XML .. but that’s out of scope of this question.

      anyone ?!

      also, first post! hello all!

It’s a fascinating idea, though it’s really not what InDesign is designed to do. You’d need to make a custom script for this. Are you a scripter? Or are you looking to hire one?

What about using Excel and Datamerge ? No need for script unless UI is critical for your project.
