      Hello guys!

Although designer myself for many years now I was always unsure whether one can design a whole brochure in a single file without this being risky. And I do not mean keeping a back up, because we all do this. In the past with Macromedia Freehand for example it was considered 'dangerous' to design a multiple pages booklet or bochure in one file because sometimes the program was so overloaded with text and images that could maybe create a problem and never open again! Now, with Indesign I tend to keep only up to a certain number of pages in one file because I'm always afraid of a problem arising if I put too many. Particularly now I'm creating a brochure with 60 pages in total with much text and too many high resolution images (.tifs and .psds) in InDesign CS3. Should I split the pages in two files? Or 60 pages are not considered that many to be afraid of the file breaking? I do not know how many pages one InDesign file can handle if of course there are a lot of images and text.

Any suggestions are warmly accepted! Thank you.

I've always kept brochures, books, magazines all in their own single file. I'm not sure how it's any more “safe” to break it if you keep back-ups.

I find that ID is very robust and can handle alot, ie. alot of pages and alot of placed images, I regularly work with long documents and never have any issues. If you are happier then split it up and use the Book feature to keep it all synced as well as easing output.
