I am in the process of creating a guide that will be mostly viewed online.

How do I create this PDF so that frame lines do not show in the final product? Is this at all possible, since I have discovered that seeing the frame lines is a default when you view your PDF on the screen. This just won't work for me.

I have spent some time searching the web for solutions, but haven't found anything for web display of PDF files.

I have tried creating a EPS file and converting in Acrobat, as well as printing direct to PDF, plus exporting to PDF. Nothing works so far.

      Appreciate any solutions. Thanks.

What are “frame lines”? Do you mean the default border, visible around each page? That is a local viewer setting — in Acrobat you can select a Full Screen mode, but in other viewers this might not be possible.

I'm trying to understand this, too… perhaps you mean the dotted lines that go around interactive objects when you click on them. That is the “focus” rectangle, and it cannot be turned off by you.

(Sandee Cohen discovered recently that you can turn it off on your own computer by deselecting “Show focus rectangle” in the Forms pane of the Acrobat Preferences dialog box. But you as the publisher of the PDF cannot turn on/off preferences one someone else's copy of Acrobat.)

I hate that focus rectangle in Acrobat; definitely makes the interactive PDF look unprofessional. Sigh.

Sorry, it seems I was unclear – perhaps I used the wrong terminology, since I'm very new to Indesign.

OK, I've now worked out what I did wrong, for the text at least. I was using the rectangle tool to create a placemarker. I've got the image placement under control too. I have created a gradient for the left hand side of each page, but my only problem now is that it does show a border, even though I used the Basic Graphic tool to create the space. How can I get this border to disappear? Or what was the correct tool for me to use?

I have been working with the Quick Start Indesign Guide by Sandee Cohen as I go, but there is still a hell of a lot to learn.

I have taken over the production of this guide for a not-for-profit group that I have recently become the web-mistress for, and they are looking to me to update a lot of their material – we are all older volunteers here, with a range of skills.

      I appreciate all help. Thanks.

My last question has now been resolved.

Well, I took a closer look at Sandee's Quickstart Guide and lo and behold, found the information I needed about “borders”.

I have been reading other posts relating to epublishing, another topic I will be getting involved in. One reference I found particularly helpful related to display of standard PDF files on ereaders, Kindle for example. Creating a Kindle template seems the ideal solution.

A have a number of special books in PDF format, so this will provide an excellent solution for converting them, although I do use Calibre.

I'm so pleased I have found this forum.
