Hello, I have a client that has 20 partners that also want their logo on each newsletter (2-8pages) we produce for our client. So each issue has my client logo and info, and then the partners (1 of 20) logo and info. I currently have each partner in a separate layer. I rip a PDF then hide that partner layer, then show another partner layer. Is there a way to automate this process, or use another method for versioning. All the info in that issues newsletter is exactly the same except for the partner logo and info.

We've produced “yearbooks” using datamerge, but kinda stumped on how that would be usefull here.

thanks in advance for any advice.

      CS5.5, mac 10.6.8

      Data Merge would work here.

thanks, i've seen that a while ago (reviewed it when i did the “yearbooks”, but i am confused on how to set it up for a multi-page newsletter. Datamerge takes everything from a small “card” and reproduces it one or many times on a page. I don't think datamage can replace just a few items in a multipage document – not sure – prove me wrong. please! and i guess if i set the size of the logos outside ID then datamerge for the logos might work…

i'm with eugene on this. data merge would work.

for argument's sake lets say that the newsletter is 8pp. produce the newsletter as you normally would EXCEPT for the parts which change which is where the data merge components would be placed, even if it is only on one page of the 8pp.

once the client approves the art, it is simply a case of rather than using the export to pdf in the file menu, use the export to pdf from the data merge flyout and export one record at a time. once exported to the desired PDF settings, you should find that one 8pp pdf is exported with one variety of customer's logo. it is simply a case of repeating this process through all the records.

it'd be nice if the entire file could be merged into the 20 separate 8pp pdfs in one hit but there is a bug in the data merge export to pdf which ought to allow this, so until it is fixed it is a case of exporting each record one at a time…

Sounds like you could use the layer versioning in the Page Exporter Utility for this – if so it would be simpler than datamerge. It was covered awhile ago in this forum:

OK, datamerge does work for this, but as you mentioned, it produces on giant PDF… too bad…

But WOW!… Page Exporter Utility worked on the 2nd run using ID5.5… Are there options out there that are up to date with support? going to look… thanks everybody.
