I have a small document with text that was placed from a Word doc and then styled in ID.
I need to override local formatting, so I first must capture the italic that exists by assigning it a character style (via Find/Change). Unfortunately — and this has never happened to me before — italic that is clearly visible is not being found! The font is Myriad Pro Italic. No other attributes are set in the Find dialogue: just ‘Italic’. (I’ve also tried specifically setting to Myriad Pro Italic.)
Changing the font to Minion didn’t lead to a different result. It’s like ID is blind to the formatting, yet there it is! I’ve also tried opening it on another Mac (still CS6), and opening an exported .IDML file on both workstations. No diff. I need to assign all the char styles by hand unless there’s a solution.
The one unique thing to note in this case: the ID file I’m using originated on another workstation where they used the TypeFi plug-in. I don’t have this plug-in and I have had crashes using other files that emigrated from TypeFi.
SOLVED before I even posted (but posting in case it helps someone else): The text was formatted in Helvetica in Word, and italic is actually ‘Oblique’. InDesign was still seeing Oblique even though the font was clearly now Italic. Weird! By changing the Find attribute to ‘Oblique’, I was able to capture the formatting.
