Could INDD info show as a different version than it is?

I downloaded a file from my client’s Google One-Drive and it says it is InDesign 2017 CC. (Like when I click on it in the Downloads folder and it shows info under the INDD icon. I can’t open the file, I get an error message. Does that mean for sure that is the version the client has used? Any chance it would rename to match the version I am running, 2017?

Client thinks this may be a version issue and I’m trying to figure that out.

      Thanks!

I would assume that it says 2017 because that is your default application for opening those file types.

I don’t think it has anything to do with which version the client saved it in.

That makes sense. Thanks for replying!

InDesign CC2018 is version 13.0, so from which version are you trying to open. Have you tried Saving the earlier version as an IDML document and then open this with version CC2018?
