I have a 12.3MB ID file (I’m using the latest version). I thought work on it was done before Christmas. I’d generated the PDF. The client was happy. Now the author has found about a dozen typos (look like scanning errors, die instead of the and one etcrnity!) Anyway, the file will now open, but the moment I click into any text I get a spinning beach ball the would go on for eternity if I left it (or even etcrnity). I force quit. On reopening ID tries to reopen the file. Complete crash.
I have tried all the usual advice. Delete preferences. Check for corrupt fonts. When it’s open I’ve tried dragging the pages to another document. I’ve tried saving as IDML. None of these work. Same on my MacBook Pro and now on the clients MacBook pro (all same version of ID).
We have the PDF which has the (almost) correct text and I’ve exported that to Word – but the footnote reference numbers don’t come through (about 100 of them). Apart from using the Markzware service (which the client doesn’t think worth it in this case) are there any other things to try?
(BTW was briefly encouraged to read Dave Dilling’s front page article about corrupt files – gave a little smile at some of the stories).
