I have an ID CC file that I worked on and put many hours into (26 page doc). Just when I was about to upload and send to the printer it crashed and I was not able to replace it. All back ups are corrupt also and will not open, not even the exported pdf file. Luckily I was able to get a 24 hour old pdf to the printer and have it printed. My ID file is damaged and I wondered if there is any way to recover it? I did not add new fonts at the last minute nor did I add any new graphics for at least 24 hours prior to the crash. Curious, yes? thank you for any help at all in possible recovery. Jeanne

A bit pricey, but perhaps this is one approach: https://www.recosoft.com/products/pdf2id/

I’d be concerned that all backups were corrupt as well.

A couple of things to try:

      1) Try to open on a different machine.

      2) Try to open it with the fonts not activated. If using a font management program, don’t activate fonts. If using the Document fonts folder–move that so the fonts won’t load).

      3) Try to open with the Links folder (or whatever folder your art is in) somewhere else so the art doesn’t show up as linked.

It’s possible a font got corrupted or an art preview or something. Maybe we can narrow it down.

Dwayne’s font suggestion could be right on track. It’s been so long since it’s happened to me I had totally forgot about it. Old and/or cheap TT fonts can be problematic. If it is the fonts, you can find the culprit by loading one or two at a time.

^^Yeah–they can be a pain. We had that happen several years ago. A font went bad (a postscript font).

On other occasions we would open a file, but when we got to a certain page, InDesign would crash. I don’t remember how I figured it out, but on that page was a single space that was an “unknown” font, and InDesign didn’t like it.

And a time when going to a certain page, and it would crash. We looked at the proofs and it had several pieces of art on the page. So we went through the art and one of the previews had become corrupt. We resaved the art and it was fine after that.

If you are facing can’t open .indd file error (https://www.filerepairtool.net/blog/how-to-fix-cant-open-indd-file-error)then try out the below given steps:
      1. Save as: Try to tackle your corrupted file by using “Save as” selection since it compels InDesign to assault the structure of its directory. After storing it with the help of “Save as” option a file becomes comparatively small is size.
      2. Content Export as an INX or IDML file and reopen that file
      3. Move all content to a new document:
You just do not have to COPY and PASTE personage frames to a whole new fresh file, as an alternative, InDesign facilitates you with an option using which you can shift whole page from one document to another.
