Copying old text and objects to a new file, without importing their styles?

I'm using ID CS6, getting ready to create a new PDF eBook. I've created a nice “clean” new master file with all of the styles and settings that I want.

The problem is that I'm copying text boxes and objects from several older CS6 and CS5 documents which were for print, and which used different styles and settings. In some cases, some of the styles might have the same names as styles I've created in my new master.

How can I avoid InDesign importing all those old styles when I import that content? And worst of all: how do I avoid the incoming styles overriding any styles in my new Master, that have the same name?

Is there a way to bring over text and objects without having to eliminate their styles in the old documents first, and then re-format in the new one? And without having to then sort out all the imported old Styles?

thanks (and many thanks for all the great tutorials),
