      Hi.
Is there a way to copy an entire layer from one document to another?

      I’ll explain,
I am using the Calendar Wizard https://calendarwizard.sourceforge.net/index.html to create a calendar with several holiday layers.
But the script only allows 4 holiday layers and I need 5 or 6.
So I would make 2 separate calendars and then copy the layers of the second one into the first one.
The question is only how do I copy entire layers – not just the objects on it?

One way is to Right Click on the layer in the layers pallet and choose SELECT ITEM ON LAYER (this will be the name of the layer you have clicked on)

Then click the FLY OUT at the top right of the LAYERS PALLET and tick PASTE REMEMBERS LAYERS

PASTE IN PLACE into your other document and it will create a new layer with the same name and all the elements from the original document.

If the documents are a different size or one is facing pages and one no them the layer will not line up the same but just move it to the correct position.
There might be a better way but that is my approach.

      Thank you.
This does not seem to work on a multiple page document.
It selects all objects of that layer but only those on the current page

In the end I just copy-pasted one page at a time…

But for the future I would still love to hear if there is an easier way for this

Copying a layer from a multiple page document to another is a very different challenge. InDesign does not offer this functionality.

So you will need a script to accomplish the task.
Try this one, just follow the instructions as you need to do everything correctly or it will give you errors.

      Thank you Graham!

This is exactly what I was looking for.

      A pity that I got it a day late…

I tested it now and it works wonders!
