I believe that text that I have copied & pasted into my massive brochure template document is now “tainting” my paragraph & character styles, and I’m not sure how to get rid of it. Any help, direction, or suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated.

Specifically, where is this stuff coming from (is it MS Word) and how do I remove it?
“shading color: PANTONE 426 C + Mojikumi: + Kinsoku: No Kinsoku + IdeoSpaceBehavior + diacritic positioning: OpenType (adjustment from base character)”

I’m having these unusual additions (shading color, Mojikumi, Kinsoku, IdeoSpaceBehavior…) to paragraph styles when:

      1. Copy text from my brochure template document to another document (new or existing)
      2. Create a new style in a new document and copy it into my template document

Note: This does NOT happen when going from one new to another new document.

      To recreate the problem:
      1. Create (a random) new style in a new document
      2. When I view the new test style in the Paragraph Styles panel and view the Style Settings it says (for this specific random example):
      [No Paragraph Style] + next: [Same style] + Shelby + size: 40 pt + color: C=7 M=100 Y=0 K=0
      3. Copy text styled with above mentioned new style applied from new document into brochure template document
      4. In brochure template document, when I view the style settings for the copied text I see the following (in paragraph styles panel, there is no override):
“[No Paragraph Style] + next: [Same style] + Shelby + size: 40 pt + color: C=7 M=100 Y=0 K=0 + shading color: PANTONE 426 C + Mojikumi: + Kinsoku: No Kinsoku + IdeoSpaceBehavior + diacritic positioning: OpenType (adjustment from base character)”

We are running 2 different Mac OS computers with Yosemite 10.10.3 with InDesign CC 2015 on Version 11.0.1.105 and Version 11.1.0.122.

      Thank you,
      Leah

      Odd.
Those Japanese typography adjustments crop up when using the Japanese Paragraph Composer in InDesign.
Word can also apply those rules, under “East Asian Typography”, so it’s possible that they were carried over when the text was imported.
Perhaps if the Japanese Para Composer isn’t turned on, those “overrides” are somehow not recognised as overrides in the Para styles??

Sorry, can only offer wild speculation at this stage.

Thanks, Chris—at least we know we’re not alone. That’s where we are too… nothing but wild speculation! We are using the US English version, and have never used anything (that we are aware) that would bring in the East Asian typography settings. That’s why we really think that it came from one of two locations: 1–text copied & pasted from MS Word (we do this all day long), or 2–text from an InDesign file that we received from Europe, or our language translator. I just wish I knew how to “clean” my template document of the “extra junk.” I did try editing the idml file (via Springy and a text editor) to remove all instances of Mojikumi, Kinsoku, and IdeoSpaceBehavior (and the phases contained therein) but it’s still there, somewhere.

      Three more thoughts:
      1. If the text involved isn’t Japanese, then the solution might be “don’t worry about it” as the Japanese adjustments won’t actually do anything to text in other scripts.
      2. If you can turn ON Japanese Para Composer*, perhaps you’ll then be able to remove the Japanese-specific overrides.
      3. Rebuild the template? Use a backup copy from before the problem occurred?

*mine’s activated via the World Tools plugin, but it may be possible to get the CJK version of InDesign under your CC subscription.

      Good luck,
      Chris.

I realize this is an old post, but resurrecting it because it’s happening to me, and it doesn’t look like anyone has found a way to get rid of these IdeoSpaceBehavior bits that show up in my paragraph styles.
