I am using the InD book feature to manage a large number of files and footnotes. I have temporarily been converting footnotes in each file to endnotes, to clear that file’s text for layout (endnotes will go to the end of the book after further peer review). Once converted, the new endnotes lose their style, going back to Paragraph Style — e.g., all the italics are lost. Reversal to footnote status does not restore the italics. My original document was created in a new version of MS Office 365. Any ideas as to a reason or solutions? Thanks in advance.

You have to use character styles instead before converting the footnotes to endnotes and vice versa, then the formatting will not be lost.
