    Hello,
    I’m using indesign CS6 and I’d like my table to continue on 2,3 or more pages automatically depending on the content of the cells (ie. if content doesn’t fit on one page due large amount of text in the table cells, the table would continue on page 2,3,4, etc.
    Is it possible? How could I achieve this?

    Tables do that automatically. But they only break on *rows*, not inside a cell. Possibly you have a tall single cell somewhere; to let ID break “inside” you’ll have to manually split it first.

    Thanks. Why do you mean tables do that automatically? Even when I add rows I’m getting the little “+” red sign at the bottom of the table but nothing happens on the next page

    That’s the same as you get with regular text. Read the online Help for how to thread text frames: https://helpx.adobe.com/indesign/using/threading-text.html

    So, that’s how to continue a table. I need to continue a table header and put the word “continued” in the subsequent headers. How do I do this? I know it wasn’t possible in the past, but here we are in 2015 with CC2014 and this (being a basic publishing feature) should be a standard feature, but I still can’t find how to do this. Not sure how I search to find how to do this. Can anyone help?

    We do a lot of tables and many must “continue” on next page(s). To get a header to read (continued) I make a row about the header row on the 1st page. I then go to Table, down and select Convert Row to Header. Then again while that newly made Header row is still selected, go up to Table, Table Options and then select Headers & Footers. Click the “skip first” option. And then, using the selection arrow to roll up the text frame so that the table breaks where you want it to, it will flow to the page you have your text frame threaded to and the top row will have your header with the continued (obviously along with whatever the name of the Table is, etc.

      Kathy, that’s a great workaround! So then you make the 2nd row in the table the heading for the first page? (Because when you turn no the “skip first” option, that first row disappears on the first page.) I’m embarrassed to say I never thought of that.

    Yes sir. Also just copy past the title of the table to the “continued” header and if needed the next row of column headers too – works a-ok.

    I have been doing this, and it works fine, but it is not (publishing) intuitive. It is a workaround (and for many years now). It seems like such a standard task. I did post my idea at indesign.uservoice.com.

    Could some good soul post an exemple with some screenshot ? i am trying to do this but i can’t figureit out, maybe becouse Eng. is not my first language.

    Hello,

    I’m using ID cc 2017 and I want to have a thin (e.g. 7 pixel) line at the left side of my content (text, images,…) which flows across multiple pages. I have tried placing my content in a table which I changed its left stroke to 7 pixel and none for the others. The problem is that in InDesign a single row cannot expand across pages. So, I have no Idea how to do this. I would greatly appreciate your help.

    Here’s one solution
    I’m working in CS5, and become with that problem. How to do a right break to a table that have a big cell witthout cross the page? In 5 minutes I have found a solution that works for this current book I’m working.
    1- Insert the cursor inside the cell, and make a paragraph, in the place you want the cell and the table to break.
    2- Then go to Menu -Type- and choose -Insert break character-
    3- Select -Column break-
    I hope it work with you. It worked for me.
