Continual Crashes

We use CC 2015 and TypeKit. Most of our documents are compiled from multiple sources and then brought into ID for final formatting. We have our templates set up such that styles in Word and ID are named the same to help reduce basic formatting. We seem to run into periods where, no matter what, ID crashes. Copy/paste/crash. Move a graphic – crash. Apply a style – crash. Whatever issue the file gets hung up on, we cannot seem to clear it. We’ve done all the recommended ‘solutions’ uninstall/reinstall ID, trash preferences, save to IMDL, etc. – you name it – none of the standard suggestions work. Interestingly, if we put the cobbled together content into InCopy and place that into ID, NONE of these issues occur. Files work like a charm with no crashing. (It also works like a charm if we use CC 2014.)

Another thing to note is that while we’ve been working in CC 2015 for a number of months, we only recently began using TypeKit. The bulk of ID crashes started after that.

Thus,I’m wondering if the problem originates in the Word file? Word does bring in artifacts sometimes – I’ve done a little research but most posts are about ‘how’ to import Word, or are several years old and not any help. It would be nice to find a solution as this is a huge time-suck esp. when pressing on a deadline.

Going with the thought that it IS Word that is causing the instability – what is the best way to handle the files to limit crashing? We are on Win 7 with an enterprise account.
