I think I have finally got my head round a colo(u)r managed workflow in Lightroom but am not quite sure about InDesign.
My BenQ SW271 monitor is calibrated using a Datacolor SpyderX Pro. I use Permajet Oyster 271 paper in my Epson XP-8700 printer. I use CartridgeSave’s own brand 378XL compatible ink cartridges.
Permajet provide a service for their paper where you can print a target onto an A4 piece of one of their papers and send it to them and they create for you a custom ICC profile for your printer with that paper and that ink at the settings that you used.
When editing in Lightroom I select “soft printing” in the develop mode. I select the custom ICC profile. I click on “create a proof copy”. I tick “simulate Paper & Ink”.
The next step is a crucial step that I previously failed to understand. I then use the basic panel slders to adjust this proof copy so that the appearance on screen is how I want it to print.
I then go into the print module where I click on “page setup” in the printer driver I go to color correction -> custom -> advanced -> color management and select “no color adjustment”. I then select several OKs to back back to the print modulle main screen and click “print”.
The resulting print then comes out looking similar to the print copy on screen, taking account of the fact that the print is a CMYK medium whereas the screen is an RGB medium.
Now I’m not quite clear about is how to use a colour managed approach in InDesign. I only make prints on my own Epson XP-8700 printer. I am going to be printing some Christmas cards on Permajet greetings cards and they are going to send me some test papers so they can make me custom ICC profiles for the card stock for my printer and my ink.
Do I just use the above procedure and then export the proof copy of the photographs to jpeg and place them into InDesign and then print?
I don’t think you can use the ICC profiles in InDesign can you and I don’t think it would be valid to do so?
Have I understood this correctly? Thank you to anyone who has read through all of this.
