Hi. I've just realised when I'm about to create PDFs for our printer (files needed first thing in the morning) that the eps files of ads I'm importing into ID have been created using CMYK instead a spot colour. (a quick explanation). The graphic in the background of the ads is grayscale, coloured using 80C 100Y instead of a(we using process workflow in our newspaper, except for work going to the commercial printer). Can I tell the printer not to create the Cyan plate and just use the yellow for the spot colour? Also, does this have any affect on the grayscale image? Or is there an easier way to change the process colour to spot globally in the multi-page document?

      Yes there is!!

Go to ink manager, which is off the Swatch panel, and check the spots to process box at the bottom.

      Done.

You can check it by opening the seperations preview, it should show just cmyk as the inks used.

Thanks Tim, but I'm after a quick way to convert CMYK to Spot.

My bad, its the morning and my coffee is just kicking in.

That is a dilemma, are there alot of these eps files? Is it out of the question to edit them in Illustrator?

Evening here, been here 12 hours and counting. There are 45 eps files. Might be easier to re-do each ID doc. Have a great day over there.

Is it possible to automate the colour change in Illustrator?

Thanks, I hope you get to sleep soon

      Greg,

I realize that you have probably already fixed this, but if the colors used in the eps files are saved as spot colors you could re-map them in InDesign's ink manager to whatever spot color that you choose. Also if the grescale images are tiffs you could also change the color using the direct select tool.
