    Hi there

    I have to create character styles based on my paragraph styles for every one (due to third party software used after Indd). I first create and apply my paragraph style and then create the character style – but if my cursor is in the para or I have highlighted said text I still have nothing initially in my new character style and have to manually select font/size/colour although the same as the paragraph style. Is there a way to speed this up?

    You need to apply both paragraph styles and character styles to all the text? That is crazy. What software makes you do that?

    I suppose if you had to do it (normally, InDesign users do not need to do this, as I described in this article), you could perhaps use Break Link to Style, then create the character style, then reapply the paragraph style?

      You could use the “Create Character Style” script that comes with InDesign.
