Changing a gradient's color always reverts the angle in my objects

I have a frame filled with a gradient swatch, say yellow to blue. Then with the frame selected, I use the gradient tool to painstakingly drag across it multiple times until I get the precise angle and colors I want.

Later, I decide I want to change the gradient from yellow to orange instead of blue… so I double click the gradient swatch in my colors panel and change the blue color stop to orange. Bang! The gradient in the frame reverts to 0 degrees – and I have to re-create my custom angle all over again.

Is there a way to change my gradient colors and not have it affect how I’ve already applied it in my objects? What am I missing?

      Thank you all!

I think I just figured it out. Duh. If I have the object selected when editing the gradient swatch, it reverts to 0 degrees. But if nothing is selected, it just changes the color, keeping my custom angle. Silly me!
