      Hi there

I wanted to change all the quotation marks in my document from italic to regular, how would i do that? I’m sure it is very simple simon, apologies for my density. I have looked at find/replace but can’t get my had round italics.

      Thank you

Type in your quotes in the find box.

Click on the formatting on the search/replace box. The format button looks a magnifying glass over a “T.” Choose your original font + roman. In the replace section, click on the format button, and choose your italic font.

      Or am I misunderstanding?

Andy, unless I misunderstood your question this seems to me a very simple operation.
      1. Create two character styles: italic and roman (your font may have “regular” instead of “roman” or even other type name, so use the one you wish to replace).
      2. Open the Find/Replace tool
      3. In the “Find what” and “Change to” fields type a question mark
      4. Open the “Find format” field (click on the little icon with the loupe)
      5. In the window that opens click on the drop down menu marked “Character style” and chose the style “italic” that you created in 1. above. Click OK.
      6. Open the “Change format” field.
      7. Repeat operation 5. but select “roman” in the “Character Style” drop down. Click OK.
      8. Now click on the “Change all” button.
All question marks will be converted to roman font style :-)
      Enjoy
      Tom

The Find and Replace has ‘Straight Double to Typographers Quote’ as a drop down ‘Query’. But, bizarrely, this does not override the Document Preferences, in which you must check > Type > Use Typographer’s Quotes. Hope this helps.

      Thanks guys!!!

You understood the question perfectly! I got it sorted, it was the little magnifying glass i was missing out of the equation, thanks Dwane!
