So… I draw a simple text frame in InDesign CC, type some text, and when I click off and back onto the text frame with my black arrow tool and head up to the swatches palette to change the color of the text, the “T” icon (as well as the “object” icon) are greyed out. I cannot select them. I’m thinking something got accidentally checked in preferences, but I can’t figure out which.

I am able to do the work I need to do in a roundabout way, but it’s a slow workflow.

      Quirk in CC?

      Should I dump preferences?

      Suggestions welcome!

I may have missed the point somewhere, but surely you need to select the text with the type tool in order to change its colour? If you select the text frame with the black arrow, all you can change in terms ofr colour are the background of the text frame or (if you want it) the border of the frame.

Really? That’s just not true. I actually have CS4 installed as well, and launched that to make sure I wasn’t crazy. Works fine in the older version. You can draw a text frame, add text, and at the top of the swatches palette (with the black arrow tool having selected the text frame), you can switch between what you want to affect, the text or the text frame. In fact, the minute you draw a text frame you can see the icons activate in the swatches palette. In InDesign CC this has suddenly stopped happening. I’ve dumped preferences to no avail. Guess I’ll just have to reinstall. Thanks anyway.

by the way… this post field on InDesign Secrets has problems with text wrap, as you can see.

      UPDATE
Uninstalling and Reinstalling the program did the trick.
      Bother…
Fortunately, for anyone else that may encounter this weird occurrence in the program, saving out the Preferences folder and putting it back in did not reintroduce the problem.

      tice2001,

The forum/text wrap thing is a Firefox problem. It doesn’t happen with Chrome or Opera and I assume others.

IE 9 shows same bad text wrap as Firefox.
